One day I suddenly wanted to read Acts, about the part when believers first formed the church, Holy Spirit coming upon them and the partaking of the bread and wine and all.. and I kept on reading until I came to Acts 5:17-45, where it's titled 'apostles persecuted'. verse 34-39 tells of the situation where a Pharisee spoke to the people, to ask them to leave the apostles alone.
"38Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God." NIV
"38So my advice is, leave these men alone. If they are teaching and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. 39But if it is of God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God." NLT
That was why the apostles had no reason to be afraid. And so do we, who God loves. Nothing can overcome God.
Indeed, if God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
May we find peace in our hearts even when times are bad, because we trust in His unchanging love for us.
