It went past nicely. No wham-bam-ka-zam stuff like a party. But it was nice, in its mellow way. The day was simple.
Phantom of the Opera. It was good. The cast, music, props, everything; was superb. And I'm so glad I've managed to see it live on stage.
But I wasn't bowled over. Oh no, not their fault, but mine. I'm too familiar with the story, and script, actually. Mum had bought, long ago, the audio soundtrack for POTO, with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. That's how I fell in love with POTO, and how I learnt the story of the Phantom, and how I learnt to sympathise with his plight. The soundtrack included a booklet, with the lyrics, within the script. The Whole script. I listened to it over and over again, and read it over and over again. That booklet is already falling apart.
That's why, I never really liked the movie. And that's why, I wasn't bowled over by them yesternight. It was too predictable for me. The script told you what was supposed to happen, what we were supposed to see! I was waiting for this to happen, and that person to appear etc. I knew the lyrics, the song, what's next, when it'll switch. AGH! I sound boastful, but I do wish I didn't know so much. Couldn't really sink into the emotions of the musical. Perhaps, it's partly due to where I was sitting, or due to the use of mics.. I wasn't enveloped by it all. And I was hearing the voices through the speakers, as everyone was. Didn't feel too intimate.
But I was still amazed, at intricate and beautiful the costumes and props are. Stage effects.
Brad Little, as Phantom, was amazing too! The emotions.. Unless the person BE the character, it's quite impossible to cry like you're really crying.
Everything was really really good.
So, at the end of the day, I'm still happy I caught Phantom of the Opera.
And wished there was a better audience though. Rather dead. was feeling quite bad for the cast; worked so hard these people who couldn't bring themselves to show some appreciation. Or maybe didn't appreciate it at all. ugh. And there're countless of people lacking etiquette. Countless.
(I do think the near exams and the current :(ness is also partly responsible for not having me feel over-the-top about all these.. )
Tiffany's!
19th to 21st July 2007, King Lear by William Shakespeare. $$ tickets! but, it's William Shakespeare's. AND, our Gandalf(LOTR)/Sir Leigh Teabing(DVC)/Magneto(X-men), that is, Sir Ian Mckellen (he's knighted!). He's gonna be King Lear. He's gonna be here, in Singapore. 0.0
So, the POTO has nicely ended my day, with a magical element to it. Fictional.
...a place behind the sun
just a step beyond the rain
Oh well, back to the real world. I gotta learn to find comfort somewhere else. herh.
You alone can make my song take flight
It's over now, the music of the night.
