An article : Why Zidane's 'Disgrace' Earned My Respect
Okay, I'm not even a crazed soccer fan. The final match was the first, last and only match I ever watched this WorldCup. But nevertheless, 30 minutes into the game, thanks to the friends around me, I learnt who were the really good and famous ones. Zidane, Henry etc (I supported France, because.. well I definitely know more about France than Italy) And we all know what happened during and towards the end. Suddenly, the 'good' ones were substituted (fatigue?), sent off. At the end, the sense of support wasn't based on the presence of the good famous players. It was based only on the true sense of the word, support. I mean, I'm sure the rest of the players are superb, they made it to the Worldcup, and to the finals. But with them gone, perhaps some of us thought, damn they wont get through. Yet, I could see some sense of hardwork there at the last moment, even desperation perhaps. There is no guarantee anymore, but that's what make it a real game play, the all-out-for-it determination.
No matter how uncalled for the 'behaviour' was, how stupid it seemed, I empathise with him. We were speechless, but we believed it had a reason behind it. I think we all had a sense of 'buay-gum-wan-ness' for him. haha. meaning, bu4 fu2 qi4. I mean, How 'appropriate', right? Sometimes, we find that the most screw-up thing that can happen, ONLY happens during the most crucial moment. It never happens when life is just okay, it only happens when we're at the TOP. It IS a cruel world.
It leaves a bittersweet memory. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
They say he couldn't possibly blame the provoker for speaking harsh words, because apparently (rolls eyes), we all know about the common exchange of words between players all the time. My goodness. So the world has come to this. Something that occurs commonly enough, something even not morally right (that is, the insults), just because it happens 'all the time', it is acceptable, and simply brushed off. GREAT. So let's all go play soccer together, THEN we can insult each other ALL WE WANT. woot. Let's go!
